ロンドン・ラウンドハウスで開催された授賞式では、複数の部門でインディペンデントミュージシャンやレコードレーベルが表彰された。本賞はインディペンデント・ミュージック協会（AIM）が主催し、審査員団によって受賞者が選出される。
DJ、放送関係者、レーベル経営者であるジル・ピーターソンは、過去40年にわたる英国ダンス・シーンとジャズ・シーンへの貢献が認められ、音楽への卓越した貢献賞を受賞した。ピーターソンはBBCラジオ6ミュージックでレギュラー番組を担当し、影響力のあるアシッド・ジャズとブラウンズウッド・レコーディングスというレーベルを設立。近年ではイングランド・ドーセットで「ウィー・アウト・ヒア」フェスティバルを立ち上げた。
フォンテインズ・D.C.の4作目となるアルバム『Romance』が最優秀アルバム賞を受賞し、ベーシストのコナー・ディーガン3世が受け取った。
このアイルランドのバンドは同アルバムのツアーを終えたばかりで、同作は英国オフィシャル・アルバム・チャートで2位を記録し、グラミー賞2部門にノミネートされている。 同アルバムはマーキュリー賞の最終候補にも選出されており、10月16日にニューカッスルで授賞式が行われる。バンドの現レーベルXLレコーディングズも最優秀インディペンデント・レコード・レーベル賞を受賞した。
ジャズグループ、エズラ・コレクティブはヤズミン・レイシーをフィーチャーした「God Gave Me Feet for Dancing」で最優秀インディペンデント楽曲賞を受賞。同曲は3作目のアルバム『Dance, No One's Watching』に収録されている。
スロービング・グリストルのメンバーでありインダストリアル・レコード共同創設者のコージー・ファニー・トゥッティは革新者賞を受賞し、スピーチで英国のインディーズ・クリエイティブシーンを称えた。「私の活動は全て完全に独立したものだった」と彼女は語った。「これは本当に特別なことだ。なぜなら革新と独立は私にとってまさに姉妹のようなものだから。私は革新を音楽界の生命線と見なしてきた——それがなければインスピレーションは生まれない」
その他、ボン・アイヴァーと彼のレーベルJagjaguwar（最優秀クリエイティブ・キャンペーン）、corto.alto（最優秀インディペンデント・ブレイクスルー）、Shed Seven（最優秀ライブ・パフォーマー）などが受賞しました。受賞者一覧は下記を参照のこと。
