ロンドンのジャズミュージシャン Dominic J Marshall 新作ソロアルバム『The White Prince』を発表 2月13日にリリース

スコットランド出身、ロンドンを拠点に活動するジャズミュージシャン、Dominic J Marshallがソロ名義の新作アルバムをリリースすることを明らかにした。

ニューアルバム『The White Prince』は2月13日に発売されます。ドミニク・ J ・マーシャルはジャズミュージシャンとしてモントルージャズフェスティバルに出演、さらにグラストンベリー、サマーソニックなどにバンドで出演経験があります。かつて彼は家庭でホームステイで日本の留学生を受け入れたこともあり、親日家として知られています。

現時点のドミニク・ J ・マーシャルのジャズの主眼はヒップホップ、エレクトリックとジャズの融合にあり、2000年以降ノルウェーなどスカンジナビア地方のジャズシーンで顕著な存在感を示したジャズトロニカでもある。そのクロスオーバー性はまたジャズ全般の可能性を示すものでしょう。

マーシャルの音楽は、日本の音楽誌、ele-kingのレビューにおいて、Kassa Overall(Warp)、Loyle Carnerと比較されたことも。また、サウンドからは Sun Raのようなスピリチュアルジャズの香りが匂い立つ。

新作アルバムについて、マーシャルは「アコースティック、ヘンリー・パーセル、サンダーキャット、ディアンジェロ、エリック・サティからインスピレーションを得ている」と説明しています。現在、最初の先行シングルトラック14「Margareta」が、Bandcampで予約購入された方向けに先行公開中です。 

先行シングルはミステリアスで美麗なピアノのアルペジオで始まり、サイケ、チルウェイブを生かしたエレクトロニックジャズへと移行していく。セクションの転調の仕方が巧みで、これらは彼がクラシック音楽の''オスティーナート''から影響を受けている証。独特な雰囲気を醸し出す。ブレイクビーツを活かした音の飛び方にも注目です。新時代の幕開けを告げるジャズナンバーが登場。

Scottish-born, London-based keyboardist Dominic J Marshall has announced the release of a new solo album. 'The White Prince' will be released on 13th February. Dominic J Marshall has performed as a jazz musician at the Montreux Jazz Festival and has also appeared with bands at festivals such as Glastonbury and Summer Sonic. He is known as a Japanophile, having previously hosted Japanese exchange students in his home.

 Dominic J Marshall's current jazz focus lies in the fusion of hip-hop, electronic and jazz, placing him firmly within the jazz-tronica movement that gained significant prominence in Scandinavian jazz scenes, notably Norway, since the 2000s. This crossover nature also demonstrates the broader potential of jazz itself.

Marshall's music has been compared to Kassa Overall (Warp) and Loyle Carner(EMI) in reviews by the Japanese music magazine ele-king. His sound also occasionally evokes the spiritual jazz aura of Sun Ra.

Regarding his new album, Marshall explains, "It draws inspiration from the acoustic, Henry Purcell, Thundercat, D'Angelo, and Erik Satie." Currently, the first advance single track, 'Margareta', is available for early access to those who pre-ordered via Bandcamp. 

The lead single opens with a mysterious and beautiful piano arpeggio, transitioning into electronic jazz that incorporates psychedelic and chillwave elements. The skilful modulations between sections demonstrate his influence from classical music's 'ostinato', creating a unique atmosphere. Note also the way the sound jumps, utilising breakbeats. A jazz number heralding the dawn of a new era!!
